Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Overtakes Bill Gates, Emerges World’s Richest Man, Again

For a second time in three months, Amazon Chief Executive Officers, CEO, Jeff Bezos, has been named the world’s richest person, overtaking Microsoft’s Bill Gates, according to Forbes’ latest Real-Time List of Billionaires.

Amazon stocks rose by more than 8 percent higher than Thursday’s close, making Bezos nearly $7 billion richer overnight.

Bezos’ net worth was put at $89.7 billion, when trading opened on Friday, while Bill Gates had a net worth of $90.1bn, a rise of about $550 million from Thursday, according Forbes.

At early trading time on Friday, Amazon stocks had risen by nearly 2 percent, adding $900m to the Amazon CEO’s net worth and him the world’s richest man with a net worth of $90.6bn versus Gates’ $90.1bn at that time. Amazon stock surged in after-hours trading on Thursday after the company reported strong third quarter earnings.

Amazon reported $43.7bn in revenue, higher than $42.1bn earlier predicted by analysts.

Bezos became the richest person in the world for the first time in July as Amazon stock hit an all-time high on July 27, ahead of Amazon’s second quarter earnings announcement.

But Bezos’ first time at the top of Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires List only lasted a few hours.

Bezos first joined the Forbes 400 in 1998, one year after Amazon went public, with a net worth of $1.6bn.
