Follow the LIVE update of the Euro 2016
quarter-final clash between Italy and
Germany
FT: Italy 1 – 1 Germany. Time for penalties!!!
Ozil opened the scoring before Bonucci scored
a penalty to level the scores after Boateng
handled the ball in the box
120′ SUB: Simeone Zaza on, Chiellini off
118′ SHOT!!! Mueller and Boateng do well to
pass the ball between themselves and tee up
Ozil whose shot from outside the box is
easily caught by Buffon
116′ Muller muscles his way down the right
flank and forces Chiellini into tripping him
over from behind
115′ Insigne’s shot from a tight angle is
comfortably held by Neuer.
Then there is some kind of farce off-camera
where Neuer kicked the ball straight into the
referee who gave a foul
113′ Schweinsteiger is booked for a hand off
in the face of Insigne
109′ Germany break three-on-three through
Draxler, who runs 50 yards but then overhits
a fairly simple through pass to Mulle
107′ SUB: Eder off, Lorenzo Insigne on. Still
Italy 1 – 1 Germany at this point, penalties
look the likely scenario
106′ min We’re off again
105′ HT in extra time: still no goals to
separate us yet
103′ Yellow card for Emmanuele Giacherini
for what the referee deemed a dive
101′ CORNERS!!! Germany have two corners
in quick succession and they are easily
cleared, the second’s block lands at the feet
of Boateng but his attempt is wide off the
mark
100′ SHOT!!! Muller’s attempt is blocked by
Chiellini’s buttock…it really was his buttocks
that did the block
94′ Giaccherini overhits a cross from the left,
with Eder puffing to get into the box to meet
the Bologna player’s centre
91′ Pelle goes in late on Boateng, and he
now will miss the semi-final should Italy
progress
91′ First half in extra-time begins and Italy
get us started
FT: Italy 1 – 1 Germany …Ozil’s opener
cancelled out by Bonucci’s penalty
90′  Yellow card for Mats Hummel. He will
miss the semi-final if Germany qualify
89′ SHOT!!! Eder flicks a classy pass with the
outside of the foot to De Sciglio on the left.
He attacks Kimmich, comes inside and drills
a low shot just wide of the near post. It
rippled the side netting, and some people
thought it was in
86′ SUB: Florenzi off, Darmian on
84′ Florenzi overhead kicks a cross towards
Pelle, but the Southampton striker is unable
to control on the edge of the area
82′ Ozil tries to break down the left but
Sturaro wins the ball. Kroos is then penalised
for a late tackle on the Juventus midfielder
80′ A superb break from Italy involving
Florenzi and the speedy Eder ends with
Pelle’s mishit shot deflecting wide off
Howedes
77′ GOOOOOAAAALLLLLAL!!!!! Germany 1-1
Italy. Bonucci scores from the spot after
gives away a penalty

towards Pelle, who gets in front of Boateng
but crashes his shot wide of the near post.
He couldn’t wrap his foot around the ball.
72′ SUB: Gomez off, Julian Draxler on…
Germany still the better side so far
70′ SAVE: Buffon blocks from Gomez’s
improvised backheel from Ozil’s sweet chip
into the box
66′ GOAL! Germany 1-0 Italy (Ozil 65) Mesut
Ozil has given Germany the lead..
Gomez broke down the left, waited patiently
for support and then played a fine pass
infield to the underlapping left-back Hector.
His cross deflected off an Italian defender and
Ozil, arriving late at the near post, swept a
first-time half-volley past Buffon from eight
yards
63′ After a good start to the second half,
Italy have been pushed back again by
Germany’s smooth, confident passing
62′ A rare Italian break, and Giaccherini’s
deep, inswinging cross is headed away well
by the under-pressure Hector. Moments later,
Parolo’s first-time shot from 25 yards
bobbles well wide
57′ Three yellow cards in FIVE minutes for
Italy’s Marco Parolo, De Sciglio and Sturaro
all for dangerous fouls
54′ SPECTACULAR DEFENDING!!! Florenzi
makes up for his own error with a
spectacular clearance off the line! He gave
the ball away in his own half,
allowing Germany to counter-attack.
Eventually the ball came to Muller, who
blasted a left-footed shot towards the far
post from just inside the box. Florenzi’s
momentum took him past the line of the ball
but he improvised brilliantly to produce a
kind of flying kick to divert it wide of the post
51′ Kimmich’s cross is headed behind for a
corner by the diving Barzagli. Sturaro heads
the corner clear
51′ Howedes fouls Pelle on the left hand
touchline and Italy have a free-kick. The
Southampton striker has been anonymous so
far
50′ Italy are clearly determined to play higher
up the pitch, particularly the wing-backs. De
Sciglio has been involved a lot in the first few
minutes of the half
47′ De Sciglio puts in a good low cross to
Eder. He tried to lay it back for Giaccherini to
shoot first time but his touch was too light
and Germany cleared
46′ Second half kicks off …
45′ Half-time, and stalemate at the Stade de
Bordeaux. It ends Germany 0-0 Italy
Germany have had more of the possession
but Italy almost scored on the stroke of half-
time from Sturaro but his effort is deflected
just wide of the net
Italy vs Germany at Euro 2016
45′ SHOT!!! Sturaro sees an effort from the
edge of the area deflect wide off Boateng,
after Giaccherini cuts the ball back from the
left touchline
43′ HEADER!!! Kimmich’s short-range cross
finds Gomez, who gets a run on his man at
the near post but powers a header well over
the bar. It was a half-chance at best
Chiellini tackles Mario Gomez
41′ A sliced shot pinballs around the Italian
box before coming to Muller, who gets
neither power or precision on his first-time
shot from 15 yards. Buffon gets down to his
right to make a comfortable save
40′ Kimmich’s short-range cross finds
Gomez, who gets a run on his man at the
near post but powers a header well over the
bar. It was a half-chance at best
36′ Kroos and Ozil to set up Hector deep
down the left flank. The wing-back fires a
bouncing cross towards the near post, but,
despite a few nervous fumbles, Buffon is just
about able to collect the ball before Gomez
can make contact with it
34′ Eder and Pelle have not had a wonderful
link up for the Italian upfront so far
31′ Parolo’s crossfield pass finds De Sciglio
on the left. He guides a low cross towards
the near post, where Boateng does brilliantly
to get in front of Giaccherini and clear
30′ Pelle plays a nice one-two with Eder,
whose return pass is underhit and thus
allows Howedes to intercept. Then Chiellini
back tracks and expertly takes the ball
off Muller on the halfway line without
punishment
29′ De Sciglio miscontrols when set up by
Chiellini down the left – Italy have been a bit
scrappy and disjointed so far
28′ Schweinsteiger heads in, but the veteran
pushes De Sciglio out the way and the
officials blow early for the foul
27′ Italy are really struggling to get out,
although Buffon has had nothing to do so far.
It’s almost like a training exercise, attack v
defence
24′ Eder has a nose bleed after an accidental
elbow from Boateng. He’s back on the field,
with tissue shoved up his hooter
23′ De Sciglio beats Kimmich to a loose ball
and is clattered. For some reason the referee
does not give a free-kick, a decision with
which Antonio Conte is not happy with
20′ Eder overhits a pass to Giaccherini down
the left – Italy are struggling to gain their
composure against this energetic Germany
side
17′ Lovely one-touch football from Germany
near to the halfway line almost results in a
chance on goal for Gomez, but the final pass
over the top of the Italy defence is slightly
overhit and ends up bouncing past the on-
rushing striker before finding the safe hands
of Buffon inside the penalty area
16′ This is Schweinsteiger’s 37th
appearance in major tournament finals,
matching Miroslav Klose’s record in World
Cups and Euros
15′ Florenzi tries a snapshot form the edge of
the area that is easily saved by Neuer. The
Germany goalkeeper kicks long, and Bonucci
is across to head clear
14′ Khedira off, Schweinsteiger on. Khedira is
suffering from a groin knock after a clash
with Chiellini
12′ The right wing-back Kimmich is seeing a
lot of the ball for Germany. When Hummels
finds him with a marvellous crossfield pass,
he tries to scoot round De Sciglio and into
the box. De Sciglio does very well to get his
body between men and ball and draw the foul
10′ Italy do not have as many star names as
Germany but they more than make up for it in
other ways
9′ A good spell of passing from Germany
leads to their first corner. It’s played short to
Kimmich, whose cross flicks off an Italian
head and all the way across the box
7′ This game is tactically balanced and it is
looking more likely that the team that makes
the fewer mistakes or slips would win
5′ From the resulting goalkick, Italy leave four
men on the edge of the German box so that
Neuer has to kick long. When he does it soon
comes back to Giaccherini, whose shot is
deflected for another corner. Nothing comes
of it
4′ Italy win the first corner of the match. Eder
tries the near-post corner and the ball is half
cleared to Sturaro, whose snapshot from 20
yards goes well wide
2′ Germany are playing a back three, with
Boateng in the centre, Hummels to his left
and Howedes to the right. They played that
system when they battered Italy 4-1 in March
1′ Germany are playing three at the back like
Italy are doing…The Germans are the team
putting pressure on their opponents now…
Ozil’s tantalizing cross is blocked out
1′ Kick off… Germany get us started
