However, he was finally caught when he went there yesterday, forgetting that there’s not Parade on Sundays.. and some girls started shouting at him and demanded for what he came to do.

According to reports, the soldier in question always goes to the female hostel under the guise of calling them out for parade, but according to the corpers, his ulterior motive is just to see their indecency. . . He was said to have gone there again yesterday, forgetting that there is usually no parade on Sundays. He however got more than he bargained for, as some girls shouted on him and demanded for what he came to do.

Good news! 37 students Bag 1st Class Degrees At Bells University

Professor Jeremiah Ojediran, Vice Chancellor, Bells University of Technology (BELLSTECH), Ota, Ogun State.

Authority of the Bells University of Technology (BELLSTECH), Ota, Ogun State, would next week confer 37 First Class degrees in the 2016/2017 academic session as the institution holds its 9th convocation ceremony.

Professor Jeremiah Ojediran, the Vice Chancellor of the university disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing with newsmen at the Senate chambers of the university as he gave a breakdown of other categories of classification of grades to include: 128 Second Class Upper, 152 Second Class Lower, and 67 in the Third Class grades bringing the total of graduate students to 384.

According to Ojediran another set of 57 would also graduate with postgraduate degrees across the four colleges of Natural and Applied Sciences, College of Management Sciences, College of Environmental Sciences and the College of Engineering.

As part of the effort to broaden the frontier of knowledge among the students, the vice-chancellor disclosed that the university had opened up a link with the Kortext Digital Textbook Platform where digital textbooks on various disciplines would be made available to both staff and students at a token, which could be downloaded with various digital formats.

He said that the university products were out there impacting positively on the society by providing solutions to some of the identified problems in the society.

”We are positive contributors to both the economy and society. It has been proved over and over again that our products are certainly not second grade, ” he said.

Seeking further collaborations between the town and gown, the VC implored the nation’s industries to collaborate with the institution in addressing some of their problems through qualitative research, saying that the institution had also set up skill development and resources centre to cater for the graduates to make them be self-reliant.

U.S mission To Nigeria : U.S. Trains 460 Students, Teachers On Robotics

The United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, in collaboration with RoboRave International, a U.S. based robotics education academy, began a week-long robotics workshop for 460 elementary, secondary, and university students, STEM teachers, robotics enthusiasts, and scientists.

The training that has commenced in Lagos at the American Corner at Co-Creation Hub (CCHUB), Yaba, will move to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex, Abeokuta, Ogun State from October 26 to 28, 2017.

The workshop seeks to boost technology education in Nigeria by engaging the participating students in hands-on robotics activities to stimulate their interest in math and science as well as careers in the STEM fields.

One hundred robots will be donated free-of-charge to participating schools in Lagos and Ogun states, many of them with little or no experience in robotics.

This is expected to provide the students and their teachers with an opportunity to put their skills to use following the completion of the training.

United States Consul General F. John Bray explained that the U.S. Mission is supporting the capacity building workshop in hopes that participants will be inspired to work collaboratively with the aid of technology to create innovative solutions to shared global challenges.

“In a world that’s becoming increasingly technology-driven, it’s more important than ever before for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to become innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our world, both today and tomorrow.  We are honoured to support this initiative that promotes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects collectively known as STEM in Nigeria,” Consul General Bray said.

Programme partner a the d Director RoboRAVE Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Imade, explained that the training sessions will be facilitated by an international faculty, including RoboRAVE International Director of Global Programmes Russ Fisher-Ives, and RoboRAVE North America Director Brian Montoya.

According to him, the sessions focusing on robotics designs and programming will provide a platform for teachers to learn how to implement the STEM approach in the educational process via practical scientific activities, throughout the training days.

“An education to develop robotics skills places students on track to develop such STEM enabling competencies like critical and computational thinking, collaboration and creativity that has lifelong advantages,” Director, RoboRAVE Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Imade, said.

Porters at the Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State have reportedly had 300 level students of the university thrown out of their hostel for engaging in unruly behaviour.

Some 300 Level students of the Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State who reportedly engaged some Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) students in a fight have been thrown out of the hostel, according to reports.

 

It was gathered that trouble started last night, after an IJMB student accused a 300 Level student of splashing water on her while having her bath. The victim later went to mobilize her friends and there was a shouting match, with the 300 Level students being called prostitutes.

 

 

The matter degenerated into a fight following a slap from an IJMB student. When the matter was reported to the hostel porter, the 300 Level students were indicted and later thrown out of the hostel by the supervisor.

Steps On How To Come Out With First Class Degree Even With Poor Grades (Must Read)

So you've decided to pull your socks up and start gunning for a first class degree? We've got a few tips to get you on the right track!
Last year, as much as 22% of Nigeria students were awarded a first class degree, compared with only 15% in 2011 and 11.6% in 2004.

Whilst this does mean you're statistically better set up to bag a first now than ever before, it's worth remembering that nailing a top class degree is no walk in the park.

If you're serious about getting the best result possible out of your uni years, buckle up, you're in a for a tough (but rewarding!) ride.

When exam time comes around, make sure you're eating the right fuel foods and not stressing too much – worrying won't get you that first!

Top tips for getting a first

1. You need to really want it

   Just to state the obvious, if you're aiming for a first class degree you have to be prepared to put in maximum effort.
   Students who manage to achieve a first tend to be those who have a genuine desire to do the best they can consistently throughout the year, not just nail the occasional top grade and hope these will pull up a few bare passes.
   Getting consistently decent grades involves planning ahead, being organised and not leaving your assignment until the day before. If you struggle with getting yourself organised when it comes to uni, we've got a guide to help you out.
   Even if you're one of these people who insists you work best under pressure – don't be foolish enough to think you'll get a first this way. If you frequently leave coursework to the last minute, you don't want this first class degree enough.

2. Research, research, research

   If you have the attitude of 'I've been to all my lectures and seminars, so I'm doing everything I can', then you might as well quit now.
   Uni contact hours are notoriously low, and whilst going to classes is incredibly important, it's the hours you put in outside of class and lectures that really matter. Read through your course handbook carefully, and you're likely to find that the number of hours you're expected to put in each week are pretty high.
   Getting a first isn't just about blagging your way through or managing to pull a fast one on deadline dates. If you're serious about it, reading around outside of your recommended reading list is crucial.
   This doesn't mean reading academic texts cover-to-cover, of course. Don't spend hours and hours researching in one go. This just doesn't work and you'll end up forgetting most of what you read.
   Instead, bookmark relevant websites, set google alerts for topics you're thinking of writing an essay or doing you dissertation on, and just generally try to keep up to date with relevant discussion. Reading about developments in your area of academic interest should become part of your daily routine.
   Over time, as you read around and get different perspectives, this will also help you to think critically and form an opinion of your own (don't just assume the same stance as your tutors – this isn't their goal and isn't likely to impress them… unless this is genuinely your stance, obvs).

3. Learn to love the library

   First thing's first – there's a difference between setting up shop in the library from dawn till dusk with half the contents of your bedroom spread across the desk to make you feel more at home while you pretend to work. As you may have guessed, we hate these people.
   Whilst learning to enjoy spending time in the uni library is really important, wasting time there socialising/ sleeping/ catching up on Bake Off isn't gonna get you anywhere.
   Whilst online journals are a great resource, the best grades are normally awarded to students who can demonstrate they've made an effort to use a range of different sources, and that includes trusty old paper books.
   After a while, you'll start to actually enjoy to process of searching and finding books that are relevant to your ideas. Just make sure that you take note of everything you use before putting that book back on the shelf (we're talking, page numbers, chapters, authors, serial number, library shelf you found it on, the lot!).  CHances are, if you haven't taken these details down you will need to find the book again and you will hate yourself.
   Whatever you do, don't drop a critic's name without a reason. Knowing your critics and making a decision whether you support or oppose their views is extremely important. Remember that a first class student will have an idea and then use critical sources to support it, not the other way round.

4. Brush up on your presentation

   It's not uncommon for students to miss out on a first class degree simply because they think presentation doesn't matter.
   Correct spelling, punctuation and grammar are vital and unfortunately a lot of tutors will downgrade you substantially if your presentation's not up to scratch, no matter how great your ideas are.
   Good writing skills help you to convey your ideas effectively, and can even make a relatively dull topic sound interesting – which is a feat in itself!
   If you struggle with presentation, this isn't a huge deal. It just means you need to start course work that bit earlier to ensure your work is up to scratch before hand-in.
   Any software you'll be using to write papers will have spell checkers, and nowadays they're pretty advanced in how they detect grammar, too. Another way to ensure you don't lose marks for presentation is to email your assignments to a family member or friend and ask them (nicely!) to check for any obvious errors.
   If your writing skills are something you are particularly worried about and you think you could do with some additional support, reach out to learning support at your uni. They exist for a reason! Don't let something like this get in the way of nailing that first.

5. Harass your tutors

   Please note that we're using the term 'harass' lightly here – please don't get yourself into any trouble or you can kiss that first goodbye (and probably uni altogether, if we're honest).
   Book appointments with tutors often, whether to discuss an upcoming assignment, get feedback, or just chat about an idea you have. Tutors are paid to be there for you and to help you when you're struggling!
   You can also score some brownie points by discussing an interesting idea related to their field of expertise – this shows you have a genuine interest which they'll appreciate, and they'll be keen to hear a fresh perspective on a topic they've probably been drowning in for a number of years.
   You can arrange a meeting by email or just asking after a seminar. If you've recently had an assignment graded by them, by all means bring it along and ask how you could improve, tell them about anything you struggled with, but don't waste their time asking for detailed feedback on everything you've written or you'll be in the bad books.

6. Go to your classes

   As we hinted in point two, attending lectures and seminars is one (very important) part of the first class degree puzzle.
   Turning up to all of your timetabled commitments is the very least you should be doing to get the most out of your degree. If you need any more convincing, use our cost-per-hour calculator to work out just how much cash you're wasting every time you decide to sleep through that 9am lecture.
   Turning up to class is also important to get on the right side of your tutors (you know, the people who will be grading your work?). They're likely to be a lot tougher when grading work from someone they know doesn't bother to show up to class than they would someone they see participating and putting effort in each week.

7. Control your social media addiction

   Now, we all know how important it is to see the outfit that your friend's cousin's girlfriend wore to their engagement party at the weekend.
   That said, as great fun as Facebook stalking can be, there is literally nothing that can be achieved with it, and studies have even shown that social media just adds to uni stresses as you become more likely to compare yourself to classmates.
   Unsurprisingly, spending hours of your life on social media is also pretty bad for your grades. If you have a steely will power, set yourself a goal that you don't check social media until the evenings; if you struggle a bit in this area of your addiction is particularly bad, either deactivate your account or download one of these browser extensions that do it for you.

8. Pick topics you're passionate about

   The whole point of doing a degree should be to expand your knowledge in the field, but the worst thing you can do is choose to focus on a subject that doesn't really excite you.
   Of course, it's highly unlikely that every assignment is going to enthral you, but try to choose exam topics and essay questions that you have a connection with. If you're uninspired by what you're writing about, it's a dead cert that your reader will be, too.
   Throughout the year, take note of anything that comes up in class that you find really interesting – this list will be a total saviour when dissertation proposal time comes around!

9. Find a study buddy

   No matter how great your motivation levels are, there will always be days when you need a kick up the backside.
   Befriending an equally ambition student is always a good plan, as you can motivate each other to go to the library on rainy days, and you'll find yourself feeling way more troubled about missing classes if your study buddy is making it in regularly.
   Socialising with people on your course is also a good idea. Not only will it make hard work significantly more enjoyable, but being able to discuss ideas with them will classmates is a great way to develop your ideas and opinions (without boring them to death, as it probably will do discussing this stuff with anyone who isn't taking the same class).

10. Remember to take a break

    If you don't make space in your study diary for a little down time, you'll either burn out or get totally fed up and start procrastinating even more.
    As mentioned previously, this is particularly relevant to library time. Spending days on end in the library until you're at the point that all you can manage is using your books as a pillow while you snore the house down is not productive. If you're at that stage, it's time to take a break.
    Balancing your studies with chill time and a bit of fun here and there will make you much happier and more inclined to use your study time productively.

11. Stay healthy

    Don't underestimate how much of an impact your health can have on your uni grades.
    Eating the right brain fuel foods and drinking lots of fluids (this excludes booze, sorry) will set you up well to do the best you can do at uni, so constant hangovers and takeaways for dinner should be avoided whenever possible.
    Make sure you stay fit and active, too. You might not want to believe it, but exercising regularly will give you a huge energy boost – we've got a huge list of ways to stay active without spending money, as well as a guide on how to save on gym costs.

Of course, there's no way of guaranteeing a first class degree, so please don't take this guide as your passport to success. However, follow these tips and you're on the right track!

The announcement, made by the registrar of the university, Mr Emmanuel Obafemi, at the second day of the 33rd convocation of the university on Saturday, was greeted by loud ovation at the event.

The registrar said that the cumulative grade performance aggregate (CGPA) determined the beneficiaries.

The scholarship awards were presented to the graduates by an international scholar, chair and founder of Excellence in Education Programme, Oxford, UK, Professor Chris Imafidon,

Imafidon, who had argued, while delivering the 33rd convocation lecture of the university, entitled, The Genius in You, said there was no worst graduates, but rather, the country was blessed with human resources, and he planned to turn them all to geniuses.

Speaking on the dwindling fortune of the education sector at the event, President Muhammad Buhari, represented by the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdulrasheed Abubakar, said he had directed the Minister of Education to convene a summit to tackle key problems of the sector.

He said the meeting would be convened within the next few weeks, and would be attended by all his cabinet members, added that it would aim to restore education to its lead role of human development game-changer.

According to the timetable released by the scheme, the online registration for foreign and locally trained graduates, begins 24th October.

It also noted that prospective corps members will be able to print their call-up letters from Nov 13.

The Scheme, did not however state when the orientation course will begin.

A Nigerian woman has shown her never-die-attitude after storming her school's examination hall to write an exam on her wedding day.

A 300-level student of Benue State University identified as Dooshima Kusugh on Saturday caused a scene after storming her school's exam hall alongside her bridemaids dressed in her wedding attire to write examination.
 
The woman who just got married that day could not miss her examination and decided to attend wearing her wedding gown.
 

 

The incident happened on Saturday, October 7th leaving her coursemates in serious shock.
 

 

Writing about the news on Facebook while sharing the photos, the woman's brother Daniel Kusugh said: "Dear cutie Sis, even if Bsu made u write exams on ur day, it's already a done deal, we proud of ya... Congratulations Miss Dooshima Kusugh....."
 

JAMB reveals those who will get admission in 2017/2018 session

‎The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday, said only candidates who meet the O’ level and A’ level requirements and other criteria set by institutions would be offered admission in 2017/2018.

‎JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this at a Training and Sensitization Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for admission offers, candidates and stakeholders on in Abuja.

Prof. Oloyede said: “Scoring higher than the cut-off mark does not guarantee admission but makes the candidate eligible for admission consideration. It is not UTME that qualifies the person. It is O level, A level that qualifies a person for admission.

“That is why you can go from here to UK, you can go to Ghana, Uganda, Republic of Benin, nobody ask you of your UTME, they ask for your O level because by law it is the school cert that qualifies you not JAMB,” he said.

He also warned that JAMB will not tolerate illegal admissions by any higher institution.

The body also stated that students admitted illegally won’t be regularised anymore.

“We know that we have abused the process. What we have been doing is to send N5,000 each to JAMB in the name of regularization without capturing their picture, without capturing anything. You pay N5,000 and then they are regularized.

“We have not stopped to do backlog but from 2016 upward we will not allow anybody to do backdoor admission. Anybody that is not properly admitted cannot benefit from regularization.

“You cannot admit anybody under the table. Let us know your problem and let us collectively solve the problem so that you do not need to do such thing.

“We don’t have accurate data because what we have on record is different from real life. We cannot continue to do that. We will protest to the whole world that we have 500 students in our institutions but in reality they are about 1 million but 500,000 thousand have been admitted illegally,” Oloyede remarked

ASUU strike: What Vice Chancellors discussed – VC, FUT Minna

The Committee of Vice-Chancellors (VC) of Nigerian Universities yesterday met in Abuja over the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Professor Muftau Akanji, said the meeting deliberated on the sutuation and made recommendations to the federal government on the way forward.

“We asked that a middle way should be found into resolving the crisis”, he told Thisday.

Akanji described the strike as “very unfortunate”.

“It has come at a time many universities are trying to stabilise their academic calendar.

“For us in the FUT, everything would have been normal this year”.

Akanji pleaded with both the federal government and ASUU to settle their differences in the interest of the education sector, parents and students.

ASUU began a nationwide strike on August 13 to press its demands on funding of universities and welfare of lecturers.

Its negotiating team and government had a meeting which ended in the early hours of Friday.

“Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration,” ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, told newsmen.

One week after the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, reduced the cut-off mark for admission into tertiary institutions to 120, the marks by individual schools is out.

It shows that many school retained the controversial 120 mark.
