Health is wealth and you must do everything possible to remain healthy. These are certain red flags that you need to see a doctor. 

 

 

We all sometimes experience moments when our bodies feel a tad bit off. Perhaps you may feel weaker than usual, experience some random body pain, or just have very nonspecific symptoms. During these times, it is best to be in tune with your body. It is never a good idea to ignore any of your symptoms hoping they will go away, as doing so often exacerbates any health problem.

 

While some people, unfortunately, choose to ignore their symptoms until it is far too late, others find it easier to simply blame any and every symptom they have on malaria and start treating for it. Though malaria still remains a leading cause of death in Nigeria, you should not always attribute all of your symptoms to the condition. It is quite a dangerous practice to automatically assume that it is the culprit whenever you have any health woes. This can cause you to miss other serious diagnoses that may actually be hurting your health.

 

How do you know exactly what symptoms are serious and warrant immediate medical attention? Well, if you are ever unsure of when to urgently seek help, then you must keep the following red flags in mind. These are symptoms that should prompt you to see a doctor without delay.

 

1. Shortness of breath: If you experience a sudden onset of difficulty in breathing, you must seek immediate medical attention. This symptom could be due to various conditions, but if your shortness of breath is accompanied by a fast-paced heart rate, pain in your chest upon inspiration, or coughing up of blood, then there is a higher suspicion for a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs). This is a medical emergency and it is one of the top conditions your doctor will want to rule out immediately in your work up.

 

2. Unexplained weight loss: Malignancy should be the first thing that comes to mind anytime anyone experiences an unexplained weight loss without even trying. Our bodies are designed such that if you decrease your caloric intake and increase your exercise activity, you will lose weight. When you have a sudden unexpected drop in your weight without making any changes to your diet or exercise regimen, there may be a cause for concern. Unexplained weight loss may point in the direction of a potential cancer. Other conditions to keep in mind include possible HIV infection, especially if you are someone that is having unprotected sex. Endocrine disorders such as hyperthyroidism may also cause such weight loss. Nonetheless, your doctor will complete the appropriate tests to determine the ethology of the weight loss.

 

3. Blood in your stool: Any significant change in your bowel habits should always raise concern. Blood in your stool is a red flag that something is not right with your gastrointestinal health. It may be indicative of a gastrointestinal bleed which definitely warrants immediate attention. The bleed can be due to such things as ulcer, haemorrhoids, or even colon cancer. It is up to your doctor to do the appropriate work up to figure out the underlying cause. This is a symptom that you should not be embarrassed about if it occurs, but rather it should signal you to seek medical help.

 

4. Chest pain: Severe chest pain is another symptom that simply cannot be overlooked. If you ever experience chest pain or pressure that radiates to your arms or jaw, or is associated with nausea or intense sweating, then you need to see a doctor immediately. Although chest pain does not always mean you are having a heart attack, it is one of the acute life-threatening conditions that certainly needs to be ruled out.

Severe headache: Everyone gets headaches from time to time. However, if you have a sudden onset of what feels like “the worst headache of my life,” that is a huge red flag to head to the hospital immediately. Doctors worry about a potential brain aneurysm when they hear this complaint from patients. Another serious condition of concern is meningitis, especially when the headache is accompanied by fever, neck stiffness, sensitivity to light, or vomiting.

 

5. Here is the bottom line: Being aware of some of the red flags is key in helping you understand what symptoms may constitute a health emergency. If you are ever in doubt about the gravity of any symptom or have a health concern, then it is always best to get checked out by a physician to ensure that there is nothing life threatening going on.

God redeems us from the unfruitful works of darkness through His mercy and grace. When people become newly saved, though they have genuinely surrendered their lives to God and are committed to going all the way in pleasing Him, they are often not immediately well grounded in the things of God. These young converts need special care and attention from mature believers. It is the responsibility of those who have grown deeper in Christ to encourage those who are making efforts to have their faith established in Him. As their predecessor in the faith, young converts are watching and following you as an example. They must be followed up with love and shown good examples of how to live out their faith in Christ. As an older believer, you must show them compassion and understanding, remembering that Christ came to save us all because of His compassion for us. Mature believers have certain roles to play by deliberately denying themselves of certain things that are lawful but not helpful to the growth of these young converts. Like Paul who became all things to all people so that he might win many to Christ, mature believers must also be willing to become all things for the sake of those they want to establish in the knowledge of the truth. 1 Corinthians 9:22 says,

“To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”

If you are grounded in Christ, you are not to use your liberty to harm those who are growing in the faith. Some of these people have already experienced a lot of disappointments outside the Church of God. Some of them have been defrauded, while some others have been unduly taken advantage of because of their vulnerability. Some lost precious things before coming to the knowledge of Christ. The moment they give their lives to Christ, they are full of great expectations because they’ve heard that the Name of the Lord is a strong tower. They believe the brethren will care for them, unlike what they experienced in the hands of unbelievers. We must therefore do all that is within our power not to make them regret their decision to come to Christ, which will be the case if we don’t extend hands of love to them. We must not give them occasion to stumble; neither should we allow them to stray away by our actions. We must avoid all circumstances that will grieve our fellow brethren and ensure that the word of God remains our standard in our dealings with them. Let us be careful not to offend the weak ones or lay a stumbling block on their way, because we are going to be accountable to God for all those He brings across our path.

Idiagbon The no-nonsense general every young Nigerian should know

If integrity was a man, they would have called him Idiagbon.
The world, especially Nigeria, is what it is today because of our inability to live a life of integrity. The pillars of our guiding principles are no longer standing on the foundation of value.

Instead of dignity and morality to be the watchful directors of our course, we decided to let vanity and impunity to rule over us.

Regardless of any other opinion, it was this senseless decision of ours that Gen. Idiagbon tried to dethrone from our mind.

But in vain he tried.

Born on the 14 September 1943, in Ilorin, Kwara state,  Babatunde Abdulbaki Idiagbon received his secondary education at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria between 1958 and 1962.

He would join the Nigerian Army by enrolling in the Nigerian Military Training College (NMTC) in 1962: NMTC was renamed the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in February 1964.

In April 1965, Idiagbon was commissioned second lieutenant upon his arrival from Pakistan Military Academy where he had obtained a BSc in economics.

From 1966 to 1967, he served as an intelligence officer, 4th Battalion and General Staff Officer, 3rd Intelligence, 1st Sector.

It was during this time that he got promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and also to the rank of captain two years later.

At the age of twenty-five, Idiagbon had already become the commanding officer, 125 Battalion.

Owing to his intelligence, qualification, and personal ability, his promotion kept coming until he rose to become Brigadier General in 1983.

Nigeria before 1983  had already taken side with lawlessness. In addition, the nation's resources were handled with recklessness.

The depth of corruption among public officials had succeeded in dragging the country into a state of economic shambles and the government in charge at the time seemed not to be very okay with the situation.

The Shehu Shagari's government succeeded in creating a group of dark kleptocratic thieves whose heartless goal would not be reached until the nation is plunged into a well of hopelessness.

As a matter of fact, record has it that in the space of four years, between 1979 and 1983, Shehu Shagari administration had mismanaged Nigeria into debt.

In fact,  Nigeria was at the time counted among the most indebted countries in Africa.

Owing a colossal sum of about fifty billion dollars, inflation found a fertile soil to sprout. The result could only lead one end, hardship.

And of course, where there’s hardship, insecurity is always present.

At the time, a radical Islamic insurgent called "Maitatsine" operating from present-day Gombe state was inflicting all sorts of atrocities.

The Shehu Shagari government could not contain this vicious and dangerous Islamic fundamentalist. The nation was in a state of disarray.

It was during this time of national disorganization that the military ousted the Shehu Shagari administration in a coup d'etat.

Thus, Gen. Buhari became the Head of States and made Idiagbon chief of staff at Supreme Headquarters (de facto vice president).

Spearheading the control of all visible instruments of national, political, governmental and administrative powers, Idiagbon made use of power the way power should be used.

With ruthless zeal and determination, he introduced and implemented policies like War Against Indiscipline, which comprises of five phases:

Phase One - Queuing (launched on 20 March 1984)

Phase Two - Work Ethics (launched on 1 May 1984)

Phase Three - Nationalism and Patriotism, launched on 21 August 1984

Phase Four - Anti-Corruption and Economic Sabotage, launched on 14 May 1985

Phase Five - Environmental Sanitation, launched on 29 July 1985

He chose to ask for something that the average person of his time would consider inconsequential: wisdom. Solomon feared that he might misrule God’s people and thereby incur God’s wrath, and so he asked God for wisdom. Indeed, in Proverbs 9:10, he later wrote:

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

It is unfortunate to discover that even among some children of God today, the fear of the Lord is greatly absent. This accounts for the level of character erosion that is being witnessed in the Church, so much so that even pastors are being caught in various acts of sin, such as sexual immorality. Joseph was repeatedly tempted and pressured to commit sexual immorality, but he vehemently refused to indulge in it, despite the fact that it was offered to him on a platter of gold. The Bible in Genesis 39:8-9 gives this account of Joseph’s steadfastness:

“8 But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

If you ask me what kept Joseph away from this sexual immorality, I will tell you that it was wisdom, brought about by the fear of the Lord. How I wish all of God’s children would embrace the fear of God, so that they can begin to live in wisdom. It is wisdom to run away from sin, because the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). A foolish fellow would say, “Death will come one day all the same.” Such a fellow fails to consider untimely death like the one that took Absalom away (2 Samuel 18:10-17), the agony of death that comes as a result of sin, and the eternal death in the Lake of Fire. Revelations 21:8 speaks of the Lake of Fire in these words:

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

For this reason, our Bible reading strongly recommends that we get wisdom. The question is, where can we get wisdom? It is from the word of God (2 Timothy 3:15). Beloved, seek godly wisdom and don’t be lawless in the name of grace, because grace does not indulge in lawlessness.

Prayer Point: Father, put Your fear in me, help me to love your word and give me wisdom.

          A man in Louisiana, U.S., Jatory Evans, has hanged himself after been accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and fatally shooting her parents.

The 29-year-old Evans also burned down their house. Reports quoted Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr Gerry Cvitanovich as saying that the 29-year-old Evans hanged himself on Wednesday at the Jefferson Parish Jail.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Glen Boyd said he was found around 4:25 p.m. and pronounced dead later.

Authorities in Louisiana say Evans stabbed his estranged girlfriend, 20-year-old Sydney Hanson, in the bedroom of a home on Nov. 7 before igniting the room while she was still alive.

Hanson was seven months pregnant. Evans is also accused of shooting and stabbing Hanson’s mother, Samantha Hanson, and shooting her father, Dwayne Hanson, in the head. Cvitanovich says his office will conduct an autopsy on Evans.
