FEDERAL Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said that five persons died and 13 others injured in an accident that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday. Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, told the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview in Ota, Ogun State, that the accident occurred at Wazobia, at about 9.00 a.m. Mr. Oladele said that two vehicles and eighteen persons were involved in the accident that resulted in the death of five persons while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries. The sector commander explained that a commercial bus with registration number MGD 129 ZF coming from Ibadan to Lagos, lost control and veered off the road and collided with a trailer with registration number DDA 121 XA that was parked by the road side. “The corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary in Ipara General Hospital, while the survivors are also receiving treatment at Sagamu and Victory Hospital, Ogere,’’ he said. Mr. Oladele said that the driver of the commercial bus absconded immediately after the accident occurred.
FIFTEEN persons weekend died in an accident involving a sand truck which collided with a car at Garin Ciroma, in Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State. According to an eye witness, the Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle with a passenger capacity of seven and registration number AA 664 DRA was overloaded with 15 persons. It was gathered that the victims were returning from Gwaram Local Government Area. Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state, Mr. Angus Ibezim, said the accident happened at about 9:pm on Saturday. Ibezim said the truck’s headlights were faulty, thus the car coming from the opposite direction was not aware of it. He said the fifteen persons in the car included eight men, four women and three children.
FOUR persons have been confirmed dead in an auto crash along the BeninAsaba Road, involving a Toyota Hiace Bus and a truck, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. George Oshoke, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, told NAN that the accident occurred on the Abudu Bridge in Orhiowon Local Government Area of the state. Oshioke said in Benin on Saturday that six persons were involved in the accident, but added that four persons, comprising two males and two females, lost their live on the spot. He disclosed that the other two persons sustained severe injuries and have been been taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention. While also confirming that the remains of the dead victims have been deposited in a morgue, the spokesman attributed the mishap to over speeding.
